Brien Matson

Brien has been a professional musician since age sixteen. His career started in Sacramento California, took him to Los Angeles, to Las Vegas, back to Los Angeles, and finally to Honolulu, Hawai’i. While in Los Angeles, Brien joined the ranks of the working pros and made his living freelancing. His work ranged from live shows, to recordings, to television, to “Beverly Hills” weddings, to movie soundtracks, to jazz concerts, and tours with major name acts. Brien’s longest touring stints were with Harry James, Tina Turner, and Tom Jones, and during his touring days he was fortunate enough to travel all over the world.
During a portion of Brien’s ten year run with Tom Jones, he lived in Las Vegas, and between tours, he would fill in for the regulars in the casino showroom house bands, backing acts such as Dionne Warwick and Natalie Cole. It was during one of the “Jones” tours in 1983 that Brien traveled to — and fell in love with — Hawai’i.
Soon after his touring days came to a close, Brien relocated to Honolulu, where he continues to follow his musical passions, playing jazz, easy listening, contemporary and pop, from solo piano to big band, and everything in between.
