“PO’OKELA” which means striving for the best has been in existence since 1995. Keeping true to our Hawaiian  name,  Po’okela’s motto is to strive to fulfill your entertainment needs with the best  Hawaiian, Island and Contemporary music.

 The group consists of band leader, Gregory Sardinha (Hawaiian steel guitarist and vocals),  and Rick Rickard (rhythm guitarist and vocals) and Klyde Kaimana (bass guitar and vocals).  The trio are well versed in the Hawaiian/Contemporary music entertainment scene.  Band  leader, Greg Sardinha, is a popular recording artist who has recorded on many Hawaii artists’ recording projects such as Sean Naauau, Keahiwai, Hula Joe & the Hut Jumpers, Kuuipo Kumukahi, Cyril Pahinui, Na Leo, Amy Gilliam, Darren Benitos and many other Hoku Award Winning recording projects.

 All band members have extensive background in Hawaiian and contemporary music.  Po’okela currently performs at the Halekulani Hotel every Tuesday evenings and every other Saturday from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m., and has performed  at many of Honolulu’s popular entertainment venues such as the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel, Moana Hotel and Kahala Mandarin Hotel. 

 Their experience also includes exclusive functions  held at the Governor’s Mansion,  events sponsored by  the Ms. Universe Pageant,  NBC sports and other corporate functions, as well as  private engagements for various celebrities.  They also provide music for Polynesian shows and regularly perform at local wedding receptions,  graduation parties and luaus.  

 Po’okela  has released a compact disc (CD) entitled “Moonlight Melodies of Waikiki”  which represents their “hapa haole” music repertoire.  Their live music performances encompass a broad spectrum of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music, as well as American contemporary (including oldies and rhythm and blues) music.   Po’okela can provide background music, acoustic Hawaiian strolling music, as well as music which encourages guests to get up and dance.  Whatever your entertainment needs are, Po’okela can fulfill them.

GREG  SARDINHA

 Has been associated (performing and/or recorded) with many popular Hawaii groups some of which are as follows:  Danny Kaleikini Show (1983), Paradise Cove Show (featuring Sam Kapu), Karen Keawehawaii show, Danny Couch Show, Cyril Pahinui Band, Kuuipo Kumukahi Hoku winning band and member of Hoku winner Hula Joe and the Hut Jumpers’  band.  Steel Guitar Recording Credits:  Michael Kaawa, Justin Young, Keahewai, Kanilau, Kuuipo Kumukahi, Amy Gilliom, Shawn Na’au’ao, Darren Benitos, Jim Messina, Hula Joe & the Hut Jumpers, Na Leo, Ho’okena, Herb Ohta, Elua Kane, Baba Alimoot, Karen Keawehawaii and more, including many local jingles, Japanese production shows and 1 national commercial.   Greg has a recording studio and record label and has produced  CD albums entitled:  Po’okela-Moonlight Melodies of Waikiki, Kahala Moon “Collage”, Hawaiian Steel Vol 1, 2, 3 & his newest release (2006)- Vol 4, The Artistry of Greg Sardinha, which is his first solo album. Greg plays steel guitar, lead and rhythm guitar, bass, ukulele & performs vocals.

 

RICK RICKARD

Has performed with the Disney Tokyo music show (1980), Paradise Cove Show and has been a back-up musician for many local talents.   He has also performed as a soloist at local venues and has recording credits on several Hawaiian music albums.  Rick  plays rhythm guitar and bass and performs vocals.

 

KLYDE KAIMANA

Klyde began his musical career performing with the popular Madrigals of Kailua High School and later went on to become the entertainment staff at the following shows: Disneyworld Florida,  Hawaiian Hut Polynesian Show , Paradise Cove Luau Show and Polynesian Cultural Center. He’s even delve into Hula dancing.  He has performed and/or recorded with local groups Kapena, Sean Na’au’ao, Naleo, Nakaninui and Typical Hawaiians.  Klyde is a vocalist who has studied opera and plays the following instruments:  latin percussions, drums, guitar, bass, ukulele and Polynesian drums.  Klyde is also a member of the Royal Hawaiian Band and owns his own sound company.

 

Gregory Sardinha is the leader of the group PO'OKELA. Numbers in the group total 3 and the instrumentation is Hawaiian Steel Guitar ( Gregory Sardinha), Bass (Klyde Kaimana) and Guitar (Rick Ricard). PO'OKELA performs Hawaiian & Hawaiian Style, plus Variety Music, satisfying ages from 25 to over 55.

PO' OKELA is currently performing at the House Without A Key every Tuesday and every other Saturday 5:00 to 8:30 p.m..
